Katarina is an experienced Yoga Teacher, teaching for over 7 years now. She is leading a 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Indianapolis and co-leads her third 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Vibe Yoga Studio. Before she started co-leading a 200h YTT at Vibe, she was an assistant to the Training Director in three 200h YTTs in Indianapolis, providing her with a unique opportunity to understand the philosophy, asana and the teaching methodology in the YTTs. She has been practicing yoga for twelve years.
Katarina leads two annual retreats: Silent Yoga Retreat in New Harmony (fall 2025) and a Rest and Restore Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica (February 2025). Additionally, she works at the Simon Cancer Center at IU Health, where she supports oncology patients with mindfulness and meditation practices.
“My personal yoga practice is the practice of my heart because yoga allows me to be who I truly am. To me, yoga is a tool through which I can connect to my body, mind, heart and spirit. It is a tool that reminds me that courage, strength, compassion, kindness, and love are all so inherent in all of us. It is a practice of learning how I want to show up for myself and the people around me.”

Michelle Barnette
My interest in the human body and natural health began in 2005 when my dad introduced me to the writings of Dr. Andrew Weil. Inspired, I quit my advertising career, began a five-year apprenticeship with Dr. Nikolai Alenov, DC, L.Ac. in St. Paul, Minnesota and pursued the teachings of yoga. In 2009, I completed my 200-hr yoga teaching certificate with CorePower Yoga Minneapolis and 10 years later, my 300-hr with Margot and Bill Milcetich of Brahmrishi Yoga in Kent, Ohio. I have taught over 5,000 yoga classes, have led 15 yoga teacher trainings and having moved to Bloomington with my husband in the summer of 2022, I continue to meet with my own teachers weekly on Zoom for ongoing philosophy study and meditation. In my teaching, I highly value freedom of expression amidst healthy alignment and present many opportunities for choice, encouraging practitioners to feel and then discern the best route forward from a place of knowledge and intuition. I especially appreciate the quiet moments in the practice where grace is revealed and felt. I am inspired by interfaith dialog and love uncovering the vast similarities between yoga and the writings of contemplative Christians such as St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius of Loyola and Thomas Merton. My favorite pose is wide-legged forward fold. My favorite band is The National. My favorite (home) state is Iowa. My favorite food is corn-on-the-cob. Thank you for such a warm welcome to this amazing studio!

Participating in Vibe’s 200 Hour Teacher Training in 2023 was one of the best decisions that I
have made in my life thus far. Through the course, I learned not only about Yoga as a wholistic
practice, but also about myself and others around me. As a senior at IU at the time, I was facing
a lot of uncertainty with my “next steps.” This practice, training, and community provided tools
for the decision-making that I was working through, as well as an ease to the stress tied to
these decisions. I have grown so much over a short time, and much of that growth is due to
Vibe’s YTT.
In January 2023, I was not sure if I even wanted to teach yoga, but after I taught my first class
for the end of training, I knew that I needed to share this practice and all that I learned with
others. I could not have felt more prepared and supported as I began teaching at a studio in my
hometown just a few months after completing YTT.
I am forever grateful for Vibe’s Yoga Teacher Training program, the teachers (shoutout to Laura,
Katarina, & Tucker!), and my fellow trainees for holding space for me to learn, grow, and
practice Yoga.
